Breaking News: Vybz Kartel Escaped From Prison, Now Listed As Jamaica’s Most Wanted!!

Dance-hall artist Vybz Kartel has been listed as Jamaica's most wanted after what is considered as Jamaica's biggest prison escape ,this happened in November 30 2011, at Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road, It is said that Kartel, who is facing murder numerous charges of murder and possession of marijuana, escaped from the prison along with 7 other prisoners.

This led to the death of one prison officer,who died of heart attack and 12 others injured, including two who suffered gun wounds after being shot with guns which were smuggled in prison.

Reports say that at 1:00 AM,Adidja Palmer who is popularly known as Vybz Kartel,took control and held prison guards hostage at gunpoint. The prisoners took the guards' uniforms and car keys which helped them escape

The group of prisoners are said to have impersonated prison officers on the phone and made up stories to ward off suspicion from authorities

Police chased the prisoners and managed to arrest one of the escapees.

At around 1:45 am, they managed to get into the prison maintenance pickup-truck which they used to get out of the prison grounds.

This event occurred at night when there would be less surveillance of certain locations like the maintenance area.

Word on the streets is that the Force Commissioner, who is the head of the Criminal Investigations Branch, said that Vybz and the other escapees have been listed as “Jamaica’s most wanted criminals.”


Karte,has been in police custody since October 1,being charged for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and illegal possession of firearm arising from the death of Barrington Burton, a St Catherine businessman/promoter. Burton was shot and killed while standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine, in July.

Any person who sees or knows the whereabouts of any of the escapees including the deejay are asked to contact detectives at the Spanish Town Police Station, Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop at 311 or Police Control at 119.
